In 1919 at the age of nineteen, Josef Zdenko Dworak, whose father Wenzel Dworak already managed a transport company, founded his own transport company J. Z. Dworak junior with offices in Burggasse in Vienna's 7th district. In the 1930s until 1935 he also managed the Türkenschanzpark restaurant in the 18th district not far from his home address at Gentzgasse 162, where the depot and garage were also located. He joined the NSDAP on 20 March 1933, before the Party was banned (Vienna-Türkenschanze section, membership number 1,530.002), which he assumed after the annexation in 1938 was the reason that his nomination as a court-sworn assessor was turned down. In 1938 the personnel office of the Vienna Gau considered that as an Old Comrade ("Alter Kämpfer"), Dworak had served the NSDAP "movement" and should be given preferential treatment. Apart from his membership of the NSKK (National Socialist Motor Corps), he also joined the Reichsverkehrsgruppe Spedition und Lagerei (Reich Transport and Warehouse Group) in Berlin, apparently also working there as an unpaid functionary.

After the war Josef Zdenko Dworak was charged with a number of offences. He was accused of having misappropriated from 1943 to 1945 a stock of sixty-six bottles of expensive wine and fifty crates of other restaurant materials worth over 150,000 schillings. Regarding his Nazi past, he also admitted to the Landesgericht für Strafsachen (provincial court for criminal matters) that he had paid 19,000 schillings after the war to obtain his Gau file so as to get rid of politically incriminating evidence. The case before the Vienna Volksgericht under §§ 8, 10/3 of the Prohibition Act was closed in 1948 in accordance with § 109 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (StPO).

The sole proprietorship Josef Zdenko Dworak was founded in 1919 by Josef Zdenko Dworak, who renamed it that year to J. Z. Dworak junior, so as to avoid confusion with his father's transportation company, which was now called W. Dworak senior. Its offices were at Burggasse 52 in Vienna's 7th district, and later at Burggasse 48, while the depot and garage were at Gentzgasse 162 in the 18th district, where Dworak lived. The furniture storage and transportation activities were enlarged in 1932 to include horse-drawn carriages. After the death of the sole proprietor Josef Zdenko Dworak in 1967, his second wife Josefa continued to manage the company, now called J. Z. Dworak. It was incorporated in 1986 into the newly founded J. Z. Dworak Gesellschaft m.b.H.

Like a number of other transportation companies, that of Josef Zdenko Dworak, who was a member of the NSDAP, crops up in provenance research into state-owned objects. The works from the estate of Lothar Egger-Möllwald, who died in Italian exile in 1941, that the Gestapo had not removed, were stored with Spedition Dworak and used after the war by the US authorities to furnish villas in Vienna. A painting by Albin Egger-Lienz from this estate was restituted by the Finanzlandesdirektion in accordance with an Advisory Board decision in 2007. Moriz Grünebaum's art collection was also stored in 1941 with Spedition Dworak shortly after Grünebaum had been forced to move in with his sister. The Vienna Restitution Commission adjudged that the objects, most of which resurfaced in Auktionshaus S. Kende after the war, should be restituted.

The transporter Paul David Herzfeld lived with his wife Stefanie at Ausstellungsstraße 45/I/14 in Vienna's 2nd district. He fled in August 1938 via Czechoslovakia to Palestine. He lived in the 1950s in Tel Aviv, where he also died. Before his departure, he had stored his removal goods, including his gramophone record collection, with the Vienna transport company Caro und Jellinek, where it was seized by the Gestapo and later sold through Vugesta. The historian Heinrich Srbik, president of the Academy of Sciences, was informed not only of the planned sale of the records in May 1942 by the Dorotheum but also of the fact that the collection included recordings of the Habsburg famly from the First World War. In a letter to Vugesta Srbik requested and obtained these fifteen records for the Academy's phonogram archive.

In 1993 the phonogram archive gave the records to the Österreichische Mediathek. They were originally identified in 2007 as belonging to someone else, so that the Art Restitution Advisory Board decision had to be corrected. In 2013 they were finally restituted to the legal heirs of Paul Herzfeld.

After his father's death in 1922, Hans Leinkauf took over Speditionsgeschäft Josef J. Leinkauf in Helferstorferstraße in Vienna's 1st district. He lived from 1933 in an apartment at Beethovenplatz 2 and owned an art collection inherited from his parents and further supplemented by himself. Apart from paintings by the Hungarian painter László Mednyánszky, it consisted above all of works by well-known sixteenth- and seventeenth-century artists such as Hans Beham, Albrecht Dürer and Rembrandt van Rijn, as well as valuable carpets. He was persecuted by the Nazi regime as a Jew but managed to escape in 1940 to the USA, where he married Helene Ziegler (1869–1969), who had also emigrated from Vienna to the USA. Before departing, he had applied to the Zentralstelle für Denkmalschutz (Central Monument Protection Authority) for permission to export his artworks and various interior furnishings. Permission was granted for most items, but some works were withheld and transferred to the Albertina for appraisal. The Albertina purchased a print by the Dutch painter and etcher Wallerant Vaillant, and the rest of the items were released for export. The removal goods transported to Trieste for shipment to the USA were seized in 1944 and sent back to the German Reich. Leinkauf's attempts to establish the whereabouts of the crates were unsuccessful.

After Leinkauf's death in 1946, his widow managed to have the property in Helferstorferstraße restituted, but the removal goods have not been found, in spite of a detailed list of their contents. In 2013, restitution of the print acquired by Albertina was recommended.
